The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Practice Advisories are issued whenever information on a clinical issue requiring a rapid response is released. Below are recent ACOG Practice Advisories that may be of importance to our TCHMB readers and collaborators.

Practice Advisory Interim Guidance for Care of Obstetric Patients During a Zika Virus Outbreak

ACOG and the SMFM are continually updating their ongoing Zika practice advisory. When new information becomes available, the entire Practice Advisory is reviewed and individual sections are updated as needed and dated accordingly.

Practice Advisory on Codeine and Tramadol for Breastfeeding Women

On April 27, 2017, ACOG, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine issued a practice advisory for breastfeeding women after the FDA revised the labeling for all medicines containing codeine and tramadol. The changes included a strong warning against breastfeeding while using these medicines due to the risk of infant opioid overdose.
